Lana Del Rey has decided to stop flying the American flag at her shows, because Trump is in office and that makes her feel uncomfortable.
What a bunch of bullcrap.  Never disrespect the flag or the nation it represents.
A person's loyalty is to the nation, the Constitution, and the people of the nation. No one is required to swear an oath of loyalty to Trump or any other elected official. This is a Republic, not a Monarchy or a dictatorship. No president deserves an oath of loyalty.
I will continue to fly the flag and honor my country; regardless of the worthless celebrities out there.

On July 14, 2017 CNN featured a very disturbing article on its website, "Visa offers restaurants $10,000...if they stop accepting cash". For anyone familiar with economic theory and history, this is a terrifying development, but not completely unexpected. What the Establishment is really worried about is bank liquidity if the economy begins to sour. I have mentioned this before in a previous article, and nothing has changed since that time. Everyone should prepare themselves for the coming economic turbulence by getting away from Wall Street, and putting their money into physical assets.
Billionaire investor James Rickards, whom I have previously quoted in my articles, wrote a correctly named article  "The Elites Are Privately Warning About a Crash". Unfortunately, the geniuses at the Federal Reserve with their infinite wisdom, have created the perfect Doomsday scenario. As the author points out, the pace of currency production is not sustainable, nor was it ever. Over the past few decades the Federal Reserve has flooded the market with paper money, and cheap credit which acts the same as paper money. They have devalued the currency, so prices appear to be constantly rising; however, the truth is that they have impoverished the poor and middle class by reducing the buying power of our money.

Columnist David Stockman also writes about the frightening economic future in his article "The "Chuck Prince Market" Redux — Only More Dangerous". This author focuses on the same issue from a slightly different perspective; however, the results are the same. Massive injections of new currency, and private and public debt that has surpassed $100 Trillion, will cause the economy to ultimately crash.

Today we celebrate the Founding Fathers' decision to free themselves for oppressive government.

Saturday, June 17, 2017

Once again, Lew Rockwell has featured a great article.
The US economy is on the brink of collapse, the gangsters at the Federal Reserve have all but ruined the economy. Cheap credit, limitless government handouts, and a permissive system that has allowed massive gambling by hedge funds, have created an inflationary bubble that is ready to burst.

Getting through the political stuff at the beginning of the article, the economic analysis begins at about the halfway mark. David Stockman does a marvelous job of breaking down the most recent economic indicators in a clear and concise fashion. The Keynesian fanatics that are now considered "experts", have no clue as to what is really going on. All they understand is that pumping the economy with money and cheap credit will somehow give GDP the appearance of growth, They can then declare that good times are here to stay, and we will all get rich together because in the increase of the national average.

On June 2, 2017 President of the United States Donald Trump announced the US would withdraw from the Paris agreement on climate change. The world media, and most of the political class, have reacted with shock, outrage, and predictions of doom and gloom. The conventional wisdom is that the world needs this agreement in order to save the planet from an ecological disaster. It should be noted, very few people have chosen to read the actual text of the Paris Agreement. In this article I have chosen to use the actual text of the treaty, instead of trusting the opinions of the uninformed.

There are many that remain skeptical about the whole thing, and some of those skeptics have impressive qualifications. Many scientists and political leaders have refuted the various environmental agreements as being a scam. This raises several questions, questions that need accurate answers. What is the Paris agreement all about? What is its intended purpose? How is it connected to the Kyoto Accords? Why are the Elite so eager to impose this agreement on nations around the world? Why is the greater part of the agreement concerned with finance and global monetary transfers?

Basic Environmental Goals
The Paris Agreement is a continuation of a long line of agreements, including the Kyoto Accord, made under the auspices of the United Nations. These various agreements supposedly will unite the nations of the world in improving the environment by reducing carbon emissions. The environmental goal (Paris agreement line 17) is to somehow reduce the planet's temperature to 2 degrees Celsius below pre-industrial levels, and to keep world carbon emission to about 55 gigatonnes by the year 2030. Each member nation will have nationally determined contributions to the plan (lines 22-31), and those plans must be submitted by the year 2030.

There are several questions that everyone should ask when reading the above paragraph. First and foremost, the Earth had experienced a "Little Ice Age" between the years circa 1250-1850. This Ice Age would have ended just as the Industrial Revolution was getting started. Using a bit of common sense, it would seem the Paris Agreement wishes to plunge the world back into an Ice Age.

A working group of the Third Assessment Report of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an agency of the United Nations, has published an extensive report for policy makers. This report is rather biased in that it attempts to downplay the naturally occurring phenomenon that affected climate change in the past and continue to do so in the present. Instead, the authors attempt to make their politically motivated theories "fit the facts" by focusing on human activities. This report, and others like it, are used by politicians to make policy decisions that will affect the planet. Perhaps the information in that report should have been presented in a more unbiased fashion so that policy makers can make better informed decisions.

Nationally Determined Goals
According to the Paris Agreement, and in keeping with the Kyoto Treaty, each nation affiliated with the climate accords must determine how they will contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions(Lines 22-31). There is no set value, nor any sort of standard, each nation can use whichever criteria they choose. This has led many to question the validity of agreements in which major polluters, such as China, can avoid responsibility.

Financial Manipulation
The biggest area of contention is the requirement that developed nations be subject to financial penalties if they miss their goals, and they must provide financial support to developing nations; regardless if those developing nations are major polluters. Canada withdrew from the Kyoto Treaty for this exact reason, and the US refused to ratify the Kyoto Treaty for the same reason.

The Paris Agreement calls for a collective quantified goal from a floor of USD 100 billion per year, taking into account the needs and priorities of developing countries; (Line 54). In other words, the Paris Agreement would create a new class of "Super Welfare". This new welfare would be on a global scale, and the recipients would be any nation that is classified as developing. Many voices have been raised protesting this figure, saying it is not enough to support the needs of developing nations in their attempts to reach their Nationally Determined Goals. Some estimate that developing nations will require much more than $500 billion a year, by the year 2050. Taken to it's logical conclusion, this system of welfare would create a vast money pit in which trillions of dollars would eventually disappear. The only beneficiaries would be the leaders of underdeveloped "Third World" nations that would siphon off billions of dollars into their own private bank accounts, while their nations and peoples continue to be underdeveloped and poor. Regardless of how much money is made available, a society must have the ability and willingness to put forth the necessary effort in order to achieve whatever goals have been set for them. Unfortunately, in many countries around the world environmental issues are of little importance to people that must struggle to find food, water, and the basic necessities of life.

An Inescapable Conclusion
For the record, I support any legitimate effort to ensure a clean environment; however, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change is not legitimate. It is a scam. It sets no rules, no standards, and no real goals. It's only apparent purpose is to transfer money from "rich" countries to "poor" countries. Trump was correct in rejecting the Paris Agreement, it may be the smartest thing he'll do all year.

I did not want to get into this political quagmire of President Trump and his decision to fire FBI Director Comey; there are several more important topics that can be discussed. But, everyone is all excited about it, as if their lives depended on the shenanigans that happen inside the Beltway. So, I am going to review the relevant facts, and then provide an analysis of the situation. I hope you will understand if a I take a rather lighthearted approach to this matter.

First and foremost, the President of the US has the absolute authority fire the Director of  the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, or any other individual serving in such a capacity. They serve at the pleasure of the President, it's his administration so he can run it the way he wants. Beyond that, there is nothing more to discuss about the legality of the situation.

Director Comey had it coming to him for a variety of reasons. He botched the investigation into the various misdeeds Hillary Clinton was accused of having committed. As an investigator, it was not appropriate for him to discuss an ongoing investigation, nor was it acceptable to turn it into a source of public entertainment. And it was certainly inappropriate for him to describe Hillary as an incompetent idiot during the election; regardless of how much I agreed with him. Besides all of that, in his recent appearance before Congress, he once again proved that he did not know when to keep quiet. He stated in a public forum that he was investigating his boss, and that is never a wise decision.

The Democrat party loyalists, and progressives of every stripe, began calling for Comey's removal from office as soon as he spoke out against Hillary. There was an undertone of real anger at the thought that his carelessness may have cost Hillary the election, and that was an offense for which they were willing to riot and burn down entire cities. As a matter of fact, the progressives and Democrat party hacks did engage in rioting, looting, and arson in several cities across the country.  However, when Trump fired Comey, all the progressives and Democrats that had been calling for his head, suddenly accused Trump of doing something wrong. With all the back and forth and indecisiveness, I'm surprised the Democrats in Congress have not given themselves whiplash.

Comey may be a nice guy, with intelligence and charisma and every other sort of good characteristic and qualification; but he did not know when to shut his big mouth. On the other hand, Trump has not exactly covered himself in glory, and he certainly loves to make big, broad statements.

On a personal note, I don't really care one way or another as to the outcome of this fiasco. Life will go, I will go to work tomorrow, the bills will come in the mail, and it will continue to rain.

The election of Emmanuel Macron is a bit troubling, to say the least. He is the stereotypical highly cultured and educated Socialist/Progressive/Marxist that believes ALL social problems are caused by economic disenfranchisement.

The issue of radical Islam will not be resolved by giving everyone a job or by providing everyone with a decadent and comfortable lifestyle. It is a perverted belief system that must be combated through force of arms and by the destruction of those social structures which have allowed it to flourish. Indeed, there is a substantial body of evidence available that proves that several governments, that happen to be "allied" with the US, have provided direct aid to Al-Qaeda, ISIS(Daesh), and other terrorist groups.

Before any further discussion can be had as to the threat of radical Islam, the entire truth must come out. The secretive planning and support of radical groups must stop. Anyone found to have supported those groups should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity, in a public and open forum.
Emmanuel Macron, a "Useful Infidel," is not a supporter of terrorism or Islamism. It is worse: he does not even see the threat.

Louizi's article gave names and dates, explaining how Macron's political movement has largely been infiltrated by Muslim Brotherhood militants.

Is Macron an open promoter of Islamism in France? It is more politically correct to say that he is a "globalist" and an "open promoter of multiculturalism". As such, he does not consider Islamism a national threat because the French nation, or, as he has said, French culture, does not really exist.

The front entrance of the theater, as seen from the parking lot

The word "Paragon" is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as "a model of excellence or perfection". Perhaps it is a "paragon" of movie theaters, it is a great theater in many ways, but it has one very obnoxious flaw.  The entertainment, the bowling, the food, the drinks, the seating, the staff, the management, and the all the other details are just right; however, the one flaw defies all human understanding.  From the picture above we can see the front door, but what we can't see, until we are up close, are the drains that are positioned above the front doors. WHICHEVER GENIUS DESIGNED THE BUILDING PUT THE STORM DRAINS RIGHT ABOVE THE FRONT DOOR! WHENEVER IT RAINS THE MOVIE GOERS WILL GET WET!
It's NOT my intention to be obnoxious, nor do I wish to stop visiting the theater. Like I said, it's a great theater in many different ways. But there must be a realistic solution to this problem! Perhaps they could pipe the water to the side of the building, somewhere so people don't have to take cold shower after their movie!

I took the above pictures at 10:30 at night. There was a heavy downpour, and the drains were happily giving the movie goers a very cold shower.

Armed Marxist protestors. The Communist hammer and sickle on display
The USA, once lauded as the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave, is now a smoldering laboratory for Marxist Cultural Revolution accompanied by the absolute tyranny of thought control and societal brainwashing. All of this is being done in the name of “fairness and equality”. Some well-intentioned, but sadly misinformed people would say “you’re exaggerating” or “it can’t happen here”, while their cities burn and their neighborhoods become warzones filled with black hooded thugs fighting against police and counter-protestors. There are patterns to these societal shifts, patterns that were repeated constantly through the entire Twentieth Century; yet the well-intentioned refused to acknowledge the signs back then, just as they are refusing today. We can see the signs of societal change and cultural decay on the news, in our schools, in our homes, and in our everyday lives. Some of the decay is caused by the failed and incompetent economic policies of the Federal Reserve and the political class which have impoverished much of the public through massive inflation; but a majority has been deliberately created by well-intentioned but misguided people in a desire to engineer society into what they imagine to be a fair and equitable utopia.

Universities: Breeding grounds for Ignorance and Intolerance

Over the past few decades, we have seen the most shameful behaviors on our college campuses: guest speakers being violently chased off campus grounds by masked thugs; students demanding “safespaces” in order to avoid encountering an idea that may be different than their own; extremists calling for “white genocide” and armed conflict; and educators pushing politically motivated agendas on their classrooms. All of these factors have been driven by fanatic Leftist ideologues pushing their causes unto impressionable young undergraduates. The direct result of this propaganda has been the maladjustment of millions of young people being confused about what truly matters in life, in relationships, and in the workplace. People attend universities in order to pursue an education which will hopefully provide them with some of the needed tools to succeed in life; they do not attend universities just to pay ever increasing tuitions and to be misled by professors with politically motivated agendas.

Perhaps the most saddening aspect of this mayhem are the ubiquitous video interviews in which college students, at some of the best universities in the country. are unable to answer the most basic questions in regards to politics, history, current events, or anything else. However, those same students seem quite knowledgeable when asked about celebrities, television shows, or other aspects of the entertainment industry.

Both Major Political Parties are complicit
It would seem apparent that the blame for this mess can be thrown at the Democrat Party; however, the leadership of both the Democrat and Republican parties is at fault. The Democrat party loyalists and sympathizers are certainly well represented in academia, the media, unions, and the arts. Republican party loyalists and sympathizers are found in the military, law enforcement, private industry, and in many other places. Adherents to both parties share a belief in "global governance", and readily sign on to regional free trade agreements which transfer regulatory authority from US voters and officials to unelected bureaucrats. The recent attempt by Republicans in Congress to rescind Obamacare was quickly opposed by the United Nations, with the reasoning that such a move would violate UN laws. The hooded Marxist thugs terrorizing college campuses and the streets of US cities are also supporters of "world government", and are in frequent agreement with the ideals which seem to guide both parties at the national level.

Much has been written on how the Left works to silence dissent and limit Free Speech. On the other hand, many people have complained about the onerous security procedures imposed by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration), but nobody protested when George W. and the Republicans in Congress empowered the agency shortly after 9-11-2001. The many horror stories of the TSA abusing citizens over the past fifteen years are too many to enumerate. Initially the agency was tasked with protecting the air ways from terrorists that may wish to hijack airplanes, but the TSA has failed to catch even a single terrorist over the past fifteen years. Yet, Congress seems unconcerned and the TSA continues to abuse people on a daily basis.

No one wants to be the victim of crime, nor does any person of good character support criminal behavior. Everyone supports law and order, and a tough criminal justice system to keep society safe. Republicans are noted for being tough on crime, supporting police, and pushing for long prison sentences for criminal behavior; Democrats tend to be a bit more lenient and forgiving to the point of being seen as soft on crime. Regardless, the US has the greatest number of incarcerated individuals in the world. Offenders convicted of non-violent drug offenses make up the largest percentage of the current prison population. What is the cause of this phenomenon? Some would say poverty, others point to a decline of family values, while others present various different arguments. Perhaps it is caused by politicians that have been overly eager to garner votes and be seen as having accomplished something by creating ever more stringent laws.  Regardless of the cause, the public should not fear the police, nor should the legal system be so extreme that it becomes a nuisance or a hindrance to the smooth functioning of society.

Is there a way to solve these issues?
The problems have been described, and now my dear readers will want a well defined solution to those problems. I'm afraid there are no simple answers. The problems began many decades ago and have been allowed to flourish by an indifferent and unconcerned public. Nobody cared, as long as the problems remained small and were not happening in their neighborhood. I am afraid that things will get much worse, before they get better.

In his most recent article, Thomas DiLorenzo, asks some very serious questions about the values embraced by Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church. It is clear that Pope Francis believes that government should have a more authoritative role in controlling national economies, while at the same time frequently attacking Capitalism and the free-market system.

I am not Roman Catholic, nor do I care what the Pope of Rome may have to say; however, he is a prominent world figure who wields tremendous influence. He should perhaps re-evaluate his priorities in life and realize that Socialism, government controls, and Keynesian inflationary spending, are the direct cause of many of the world's problems.

It's been a while since my last post. Things have been rather hectic with work, Easter, family, and so on. But don't worry, I will be posting a new and exciting, deeply analytical, mentally stimulating, and entertaining article within the next few days. So keep checking for the update.

For the past several months the American public has been entertained with a constant barrage of shocked outrage from the liberal media and Democrat partisans, in connection to various politicians and members of the Trump administration meeting with President Vladimir Putin, the Russian ambassador and other Russian officials. The problem is that if we stop and think about it for a minute, we will realize that all of this bitter indignation is pure hogwash. Almost every one of the people getting in front of the news cameras and screaming "foul" has engaged in similar contacts with Russian officials.

Every government in the world sends ambassadors and diplomats to every other government in the world, in order to keep in contact about a great many issues: from issuing visas and passports to extraditing criminals to making trade agreements to whatever else is needed. It would be impossible for the government of a civilized nation to function in the modern world without embassies and ambassadors. It is expected that the Russian ambassador will hold regular meetings with different US officials in order to discuss the many issues that are of mutual concern. The British, French, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Brazilian, South African, Icelandic, and every other ambassador from every other nation has the same expectations.

This artificial scandal began before Trump was sworn into office, Obama was still in the White House. First, it was all about mysterious Russian hackers that had somehow influenced the presidential election. The public is still waiting to see any sort of proof or evidence of these alleged hackers. Next, General Micheal Flynn supposedly met with Russian officials at some point. General Flynn also met with officials from many other nations, but that doesn't seem to have been noticed by anyone. The Trump administration cut ties with General Flynn, after it was made aware that Flynn was getting paid to act on behalf of the Turkish government. Next, the plot thickened considerably, anyone and everyone that is not a Democrat that had even the slightest contact with the Russian ambassador(or any other Russian) has been vilified by both the press and Democrat party affiliates.

We have reached the point that anyone across the fruited plain enjoying a glass of vodka will be subject to mean looks, Congressional inquiries, a visit by the Spanish Inquisition, and will perhaps get burnt at the stake by political devotees hoping to surpass the Salem Witch trials. It seems that nobody is willing to take a stand and denounce this nonsensical scandal that is based on completely spurious accusations. It remains to be seen how much time and effort will be wasted by Congress and the press in an effort to prove that the Russian ambassador has been doing his job and that US officials have regular contacts with foreign officials.

Speaker of the House (and ultimate insider) Paul Ryan admitted to defeat after Congress failed to repeal the Obamacare Act (Affordable Care Act). The fact that the Republicans were not able to repeal the act,  regardless of how much they spoke about it during the election, is hardly a shock to anyone that is the least bit aware of American politics today. Obamacare is still the law of the land because the Washington Establishment never had any intention of repealing it. Under the leadership of Speaker Paul Ryan, Congressional Republicans sponsored a bill that would "fix" Obamacare, instead of repealing it as was promised. This caused a number of Conservatives associated with the House Freedom Caucus to revolt and oppose Speaker Ryan's proposed bill.

Picture taken during the 2016 State of the Union

The Obamacare bill is a very misguided law; it fails to reduce the rising cost of medical care as it was originally planned. However, the Elite, people of both parties that are connected to Wall Street, the big banks, and industry, are fully in support of this bill. Paul Krugman, a Nobel prize winner for his research in Economics, has sung the praises of Obamacare; while admitting it has several major flaws. It is a bit disconcerting to realize that Socialist groups such as the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI), are very much opposed to what they call the "right-wing" health care bill. The Socialists claim it does little to nothing in terms of providing health care to the poor, while enriching health insurance companies by forcing everyone to purchase health insurance. Conservatives and Libertarians oppose Obamacare for a number of reasons. It should be carefully noted that the rising cost of medical care is directly related to monetary inflation, as are the rising costs of college tuition, real estate, and everything else. The reasons for this vast inflation can be found in one of my previous articles. Obamacare's attempt to sugar-coat the problem with increased subsidies, or whatever it does, has already proven to be futile as costs are still rising.

During his election campaign President Trump promised to force the Mexicans to pay for a wall on the Southern border, repeal Obamacare, and spend tax money we don't have on things we don't need. So far, Trump is batting a 0.0 average, he's not been able to deliver on any of his grand promises. We will have to wait and see if this Obamacare fiasco reignites the animosity Trump and Ryan had for each other during the campaign. I think people that voted for either Trump or Ryan, based on their promises, are in for some terrible disappointment.

David Rockefeller died on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the age of 101. A grandson of the great oil tycoon and robber baron John D. Rockefeller, David Rockefeller would make his mark in the world of banking and globalization. Educated at elite schools such as: Harvard, the London School of Economics, and the University of Chicago, he was a no doubt a very brilliant man. Entering into the family banking business at Chase Bank in the international department, which eventually would become Chase Manhattan, he rose to the level of CEO.

His business accomplishments were considerable; however, it is in the realm of politics and international relations in which he had the greatest impact. Joining the Council of Foreign Relations and the nefarious Builderberg Group, he would go on to create the Trilateral Commission. As president of Chase Bank and chairperson of the CFR, Rockefeller traveled the world extensively and had contacts with every nation, including the USSR at the height of the Cold War during the 1960-1970's. A lifelong Republican, he was part of the so called "country club" arm of the party.

The subject of his greatest endeavors was the creation and implementation of a system of global regulations and global governance, in other words World Government. In his autobiography Memoirs, page 405, he admitted that he and his entire family have been working towards the creation of a One World Government.

“Some even believe we  are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure – one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.”

It is normally considered to be in bad taste to speak ill of the dead; however, in this case I will make an exception. This man and his cronies have caused immeasurable suffering around the world with their secretive manipulations, therefore, I can honestly that the world is better off without him.
Good Riddance.

In recent years there has been a disturbing phenomenon on college campuses across the US, which in turn reflects a growing trend within the nation as a whole. This phenomenon can be described as “un-American” at best; different groups of overly sensitive people demanding an absolute conformity of opinions, behaviors, and personal beliefs. Anyone failing to conform (or assumed to be failing) is immediately demonized as hateful, prejudiced, narrow-minded, immoral, unpatriotic, or whatever else seems appropriate. Unfortunately in recent times the response to unwanted persons, including university guest speakers that have been invited by faculty, is for people to loudly and rudely protest or even hold a school hostage by rioting.

This article will examine the beginning of this disturbing trend of aberrant behavior, and how it has evolved over the past few decades. Several questions will be raised which are relevant to university life and to the productivity of the population as a whole. How did academia lose its historic goal of free and open debate? Why are university students seemingly eager to protest, riot, and in general make nuisances of themselves? Will this affect the creativity of the average citizen?

In 1987 University of Chicago Professor Allan Bloom published an unexpected best seller bearing the title “The Closing of the American Mind”.  In his book the author argued that "higher education has failed democracy and impoverished the souls of today's students”. His argument was that today’s colleges have put too much emphasis on relativism and have thus given students a misguided understanding of history, culture, and society. The book is lengthy and can be difficult to comprehend; however, the problems the author is discussing have only gotten worse as time has progressed. This book is even more relevant today than it was in 1987, the close-minded perspective has only gotten worse over the decades, and it is of benefit to review some of the major points.
The author begins by discussing the purpose of education and its desired goals. The discussion continues by describing how different societies seek different outcomes from an education system. He uses the example of the early American republic seeking people with certain characteristics: honesty; industriousness; love of family; knowledge of the “natural” rights embedded in the Declaration of Independence; and an understanding and appreciation for the form of government designed by the Founding Fathers. He compares this with more traditional autocratic societies in which myth, fantasy, severe discipline, and extended family or tribal connections, produce a fanatical loyalty to the nation which is in contrast to the rational, reflective, and even self-interested loyalty to a democratic form of government and its rational principles. The difference in the two is the understanding of natural rights. The American public is united in a certain brotherhood by its common appreciation for the rights and freedoms enjoyed by all citizens; regardless of race, class, religion, or ethnicity.
The author makes the argument that the modern educational system focusing on openness and relevancy has rejected all such ideas; it ignores the idea of natural rights and the historical development of the nation. In more recent times, three decades after the book’s printing, many in academia have gone so far as to condemn most of the Founding Fathers for various reasons other than their efforts to form a new nation: some were slave owners, others kept mistresses, others had illegitimate children, some were Roman Catholics while others were deists, all were “rich old white men”,  and none had the foresight to live in accordance with the narrow-minded political correctness which has come to dominate the nation two-hundred years later.

In recent years the mentality on university campuses has become increasingly insular and often petty. Many students and university administrators have come to reject the idea of Freedom of Speech and Expression, in an effort to stamp out anything which may be in some way construed as hate, racism, sexism, or possibly offensive.  There are examples of students demanding the removal of plaques, titles, or memorabilia, because the name of the associated person sounds prejudiced or unpleasant; regardless of the person’s history, contribution, character, or complete innocence of any wrongdoing. Theater performances, works of art, statues of significant historical figures, and other works of design or beauty, have also received similar treatment.
This trend towards increasingly insular thinking has taken a turn to the worse, towards violence and rioting; but it is not always the students at fault. In 2015 a student photographer filming a student gathering on school grounds was accosted by a professor of Journalism demanding he leave the premises. The professor made national headlines when she was caught on film while shouting “I need some muscle over here”. After a strong response from the community, the local prosecutor filed charges against the professor and the university terminated her employment. However, there is a deeper issue at stake. What prompted this professor of journalism to behave in this outrageous and criminal manner?  Did she believe that she would have been justified if the student journalist was assaulted or injured? Fortunately, in this instance, there was video evidence of her behavior. What would have happened if the video was not available?
There have been many cases in which students have turned to violence, in order to keep invited speakers from entering campus grounds. Milo Yiannopoulos, an admittedly controversial individual, was greeted by rioters on his way to deliver a speech at Berkley. However, in the case of Charles Murray, a respected researcher and well known political scientist whose only crime has been to express carefully researched ideas, Middlebury College became the site of rioting and mayhem, without any sort of reasoning or justification. The violent response was egged on by some of the faculty, but it turns out that neither the faculty nor protesting students has actually read any of Mr. Murray’s work. Their actions were based purely on rumors, assumptions and ignorance. One of the faculty members accompanying Mr. Murray was attacked by the rioters and required hospitalization. Is this the “tolerance” which is championed by the very people that wish to silence anyone accused of “hate”?
The repression of this extreme political correctness is constantly evolving. A perfect example of this repressive behavior is a recent incident in which a student of Latin-American origin publicly denounced “white girls” for wearing hoop earrings, which in her mind are associated with ghettos and poor people of color. She described this as “cultural appropriation” on the part of white women. This may seem like the righteous indignation of members of a victimized minority: however, upon the most rudimentary research it’s discovered that hoop earrings have no connections whatsoever to slavery, ghettos, or any particular ethnic group. Even well-known comedians, whose names are household items, have been avoiding college campuses out of the fear that they may inadvertently cause offense and set off a riot.
As can be imagined, given the seemingly hair trigger temper of overly sensitive college students, free and open academic discussion has taken a severe blow. Academia should be the one place where everything is open to discussion, and all opinions are respected. If debate is constrained and only certain opinions are permissible, then society becomes as stagnant and monolithic as certain repressed nations where the entire society is based upon fanatical interpretations of Islam.

The current climate of repression has been developing for many years, at least thirty-five years given the copyright date of Professor Bloom’s work. If the current batch of students was born to those on college campuses during the 1980’s, what sort of people will be raised by the current students? It is a frightening thought that future generations may become even worse. Some schools are fighting back against this repression of speech, but it may be too little and too late.

There is another issue which must be considered. What happens when these violence prone students attempt to enter the workforce? One of the hallmarks of America’s greatness has been the unrestricted creativity and ingenuity of the public. That creativity which has kept America great is now jeopardized and is in danger of disappearing. There is not an easy solution to this problem; it has taken decades to develop and it will take decades to correct. However, for the sake of the nation, and the success of future generations, society must recognize the inherent danger this phenomenon of repressive thoughts and behaviors represents.
