THE WORST MAN WINS IN IOWA

Shocking news Donald Trump wins the Iowa primary; or perhaps not so shocking to those paying attention and understanding how very far US society has fallen. A few short decades ago our parents and grandparents would have been appalled to see such a boorish man gaining any sort of political victory. It is indeed a sign of the times, when college graduates from the nation's most prestigious universities do not know basic information that pertains to profound historical events such as the Revolutionary war, Civil war, or the two World  Wars, how can the general public be expected to make any sort informed decision when voting for public officials. If the situation was not so dire, it would make for an excellent piece of late night comedy.

There are, or were, several Republican candidates in the primaries that would make far better national leaders than Trump, in both the 2016 and the current election year. The Democrat Party also possessed several candidates in both 2016 and 2020 primaries that were far superior to the eventual front runners.  I have said this many times before, if the Democrat party had an ounce of common sense, they would have supported Jim Webb in 2016. He would have been far more acceptable than the shrill sounding and scandal plagued Hillary Clinton, in addition he would have easily beaten Trump. However, the Democrat party has demonstrated many times that common sense is not one of their more prevalent qualities. To be clear, this is not an endorsement of either party. Both parties are controlled by the same money and special interest groups at the at the national level. Countless highly qualified presidential candidates are rejected by party insiders in favor of connected insiders that ultimately prove to be disappointments.

Perhaps it is a type on mass hysteria, or perhaps some folks are simple unable to think creatively and independently. Whatever the case may be, the worst possible candidate has won the Iowa primary. On the other hand, both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley are dedicated political insiders and Global Elite types that would continue the agenda of the New World Order, without pause or question. After everything is said and done, who will I be voting for? I will vote third party, just as I have been doing for more than 20 years. Neither Democrats nor Republicans represent the interest of the American people, and I will happily contribute my vote elsewhere.

HAVE WE LOST OUR MINDS?

Taylor Swift

I have not been able to write a properly coherent article in almost two years, since my father passed away. I will admit that it's mostly my fault, I have not dedicated the time to sit down and write; the rest of the fault lies with the added responsibilities that I have taken on. In that time I have been through a heart catheterization, one three day hospital stay for a nasty cellulitis infection in my leg, put in countless hours at the restaurant, engaged in many pointless arguments on social media, and I've indulged in my favorite hobby of playing DnD. I've tried to write several articles, but they're still in the early stages, and they may never see the light of day. Looking at the world around me I've come to the sad realization that the world has gone crazy.

I've made new friends, lost several old friends prematurely, and have reconnected with friends I haven't seen in decades. Beyond all this, my life has not changed much, nor have my beliefs and convictions. It is those beliefs and convictions which have motivated me to write on this blog, and now with all that out of the way, we can get to the main topic.

Over the past three years many things have occurred which should cause people of good character to stop and reconcile current events to their own beliefs and convictions.

The election of 2020 and it's aftermath, in reality a complete and utter fiasco, warrants an entire library of carefully researched material. It is sufficient to say that the only ones to have truly lost are the US voters that were forced to choose between two equally worthless presidential candidates. Donald Trump may have better mental health than the aged Joe Biden, but not by much, and he is crazy in very different way. Trump has been the one of the worst presidents, not because of his policies which were not too bad, it was his massive ego and his complete inability to filter his big mouth. A president needs to be a leader, someone the public can look up to and admire, someone that can motivate the public, someone that can convince the people that they live in a great country that remains the Land of Opportunity. Trump lacked any semblance of leadership qualities, he divided the nation more harshly than any other president in our history, and members of his own administration fell victim to his unpredictable and uncouth personality.

Transgenderism has become an issue which has seen much discussion.  If an adult person, who is mentally capable of making their own decisions, wishes to become transgendered, more power to them, they have every right to live their lives as they see fit.  Debating the pros or cons, is far beyond the purpose of this article. Only a few things need to be stated, and only for those that have any lingering doubts. First, there have always been people, both men and women, that wanted to live as the opposite gender. Second, sex reassignment surgery and hormone therapy can only alter aesthetic properties, in other words only a person's external appearance can be altered. The skeletal and muscular structures, internal organs, heart and lung function, the brain itself, and many other biological and genetic aspects of the human body can NOT be altered. Folks that believe otherwise are deceiving themselves.

There have been several high profile examples of transgendered females (people born male) competing against biological females in athletic contests and beauty pageants, or getting recognized as "woman of the year". This is so absurd I will refrain from commenting on it, as I do not wish to honor these things by discussing them. The well intentioned, but horribly misguided people that support or permit these things to happen, should go home and very carefully reconsider their lives.

Minor children should have no part in the discussion of transgenderism, nor should they be subjected to any form of propaganda or brainwashing. Growing children may be confused, uncomfortable about their bodies, embarrassed by their sexuality, or a number of other things. For the past 100,000 years, when 99.95% of people got past puberty and become fully developed adults, all the confusion about their sexuality disappeared, and they went on to live normal lives as biology intended for them. For any authority figure to suggest that small children undergo hormone therapy or gender reassignment, is an abomination that should be punished as a crime against humanity. Let innocent children grow up, and when they are adults and old enough to understand sexuality and make good decisions for themselves, they are free to live out their life as they see fit.

The war between Russia and Ukraine, and the resurgence of conflict in Israel and Palestine, warrants a quick mention. There has been a great deal of bad information being spewed by the press for both of these conflicts. Thirty second sound bytes, or flashy new headlines, followed by empty platitudes and often repeated political slogans, do not amount to substantive information. Very little accurate information has been made available to the public by the politically motivated mainstream press, finding good information has always been difficult.  I will revisit these topics in greater depth in a future article.

As for Taylor Swift, she is one of the few celebrities that I will ever mention. The Internet is filled with articles about her, her music, her adoring fans, and her multitude of different lovers. That is all that needs to be said about her. 😇

GETTING BACK TO WRITING ON THIS BLOG

 Hello Dear Readers,

It's been a while since I last posted to this blog, indeed this past year has been rather chaotic. The loss of my father, lack of staff and disruptions at the family business, multiple illnesses and hospital stays, and even a couple visits to local surgeons, have all created an environment which was not conducive to writing well researched and sharply analytical articles. It is my intention to continue writing in 2023, and to perhaps expand beyond the scope of this blog site. Whatever the future may bring, everyone will be in my thoughts and prayers as we move forward through these difficult years.

THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN CONFLICT AND PROPHECIES OF THE LAST DAYS

Today, February 24, 2022  marks an escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. For those that do not know, the two neighbors have been at odds for a very long time. For 1000 years the two have been neighbors, brothers, adversaries, and at times one unified nation. Kiev, the capital of Ukraine was the historical first capital of Russia, many residents of Ukraine speak Russian and identify as Russians. The Western world does not understand this conflict, nor should it interfere in any way. It is best for the world to simply allow those two brother nations to figure things out for themselves.

However, this conflict is but a very small part of the things to come. The book of Revelations found in the New Testament describes the Last Days as a terrible time, when people will turn away from God and evil will govern the world. As we have gotten closer to this dreadful epoch, the saints of the Orthodox Church have said many things, and have provided a bit of clarity to the confusing visions found in the book of Revelations. It is important to understand that most key events will take place in the Middle East and the Mediterranean. There have been many saints in the Orthodox Church, and they have all said different things; however, most of the predictions collected over the past 2000 years are in general agreement with each other. Certain predictions may have come from Divine wisdom, while others may have been the individual's interpretation, only time will tell. There have been a great many saints, and to accurately cite which saint made which statement would encompass many volumes, and is far beyond the scope of this article. If someone wishes to learn more, books on this matter can be easily found at any bookstore that stocks Orthodox materials or on the Internet.

This is a rough outline of how things have been predicted to happen, some things are specific, while others are a bit vague. Dates and times are never specific when dealing with such predictions, and the saints that received actual Divine wisdom are always vague as to when things may occur.

The Book of Revelations, and the various predictions of the saints, are not meant to be viewed as some sort of horror story with a hopeless narrative; rather it is a call for everyone to repent of their ways and to seek to become closer to God. The Book of Revelations offers great hope to the followers of Christ, for those that remain steadfast and keep their faith, they will live for all eternity in the uncreated Light of God. There is no greater goal, no greater purpose, no greater joy, than to live forever in the presence of the Lord.

To begin, the saints have said that in the Last Days, as described in the Bible, there would be a terrible Apostasy, people would distance themselves from God. All manner of sinful behavior would become commonplace, especially sins of the flesh as humanity becomes lecherous and perverse. In the New Testament, I forget which book, it is said that it would become worse than Sodom and Gomorrah. People's love for others would lessen, and people would become unforgiving, selfish, and egotistical. Saint Nilus stated that because of people's vulgar behavior and immodest appearance, it would become difficult to discern the difference between men and women. He also stated that in the Last Days "people will go insane, and anyone that retains their sanity will be attacked by the insane for not being insane like everyone else".

The saints have been specific about certain events. It was predicted by various saints, each with their own way of looking at the situation, that Russia would conquer Ukraine, and the political, social, and religious conflicts they had would be finally settled. Both nations are majority Orthodox, the real difference is political; they're arguing over who gets to be in charge and select bishops. Some Ukrainians want an independent Church with locally elected bishops, while others wish to remain under the leadership of Moscow. The whole thing is a bit silly, and the behavior of various people involved has been less than proper. Russia will also take over Georgia at some point, with the details being unclear as to causes and consequences.

The focus of many predictions involve Turkey, Greece, and Israel. At some point there will be a terrible economic collapse on a global scale, unemployment will reach levels never seen before. The controllers of great wealth will withdraw their fortunes from the marketplace, which will exacerbate the economic collapse. Turkey will invade Greece, hoping to steal natural resources. Soon after this invasion begins, Russia will attack and destroy Turkey, the nation of Turkey will cease to exist. Suffering from the ravages of the economic collapse, or perhaps from sanctions imposed by the West or some other reason, Russia will continue into the Middle East for whatever purpose they have. At this point a three day global nuclear war will begin, with many nations involved,  call it World War Three or Armageddon. The results will be disastrous for the world and most particularly for the nations involved in that conflict. According to the Book of Revelations and the various predictions, one third of humanity will perish in those three days. As a consequence of the nuclear fallout the world will be polluted: bodies of water will be poisoned and all the fish will die; the air will be toxic; terrible famines and diseases will ravage the inhabitants of the world, lessening the population of the world even further. One saint stated that a person will have to walk a whole day in order to find another person, and they will be so happy to see someone, they will embrace that other person as a brother. Despite the calamity, humanity will continue on; society will be changed, but life will continue. It will take humanity 20-30 years to begin to rebuild after this terrible war, about a generation or two. At that point the Beast of Revelations, also known as the anti-Christ will come to power. He will hold a world wide political office of some sort for a term of three and a half years. According to various statements in the New Testament, the Jews will accept this person as the Messiah, he will enter into the rebuilt Temple of Solomon, and they will worship him. His evil will be unimaginable, and he will do terrible things to anyone that refuses to accept him. The end of his time in power will mark the end of the world, and Christ will return in glory to judge the living and the dead. To repeat, no one knows when exactly these events will occur. This may occur next year, or ten or twenty years from today, but it appears that the time is getting closer.

There is evidence that those terrible events are getting closer. Vast amounts of crude oil have been discovered under the Greek controlled portions of the Mediterranean Sea, and the Turks are anxious to take some for themselves. Greece, Cyprus, and Israel have created a joint venture to build seven oil rigs in the sea, in order to mine the crude oil. A part of the sea bottom which overlaps these oil rigs is an area named "Leviathan". One contemporary Orthodox monk, Elder Nekatrios Mousaliotis, believes this crude oil project matches one of the dragons mentioned in the book of Revelations. The monster coming from the sea, named Leviathan, with seven heads and ten horns, with each horn wearing a crown (Revelations 13.1). A bit later on (17.12),  the writer describes the ten horns as having the authority of kings, but without a kingdom to rule. This should not be confused with the dragon upon which the harlot was riding (17.3); the horns on that dragon lacked the crowns which adorned the first dragon. It is stated that both dragons are of one mind, that is they share opinions and purpose, further proof they are separate entities. John the Evangelist was sitting on the beach receiving these visions 2000 years ago, it stands to reason he would not have understood a vision of seven oil rigs, to him they looked like a giant monster. The ten crowned horns giving power to the seven heads also reconcile with the international banks which are funding the multi-billion dollar oil venture. How does one describe a bank? Banks have almost limitless power, they can bring about the rise or downfall of nations; yet they are not governing any particular area. Banks are literally kings without kingdoms. Revelations mentions the Mark of the Beast, which will be placed on people's hands and foreheads, and only those with the Mark will be able to buy and sell. This is something within the power of banks to impose. Centuries ago, governments issued coins as a means of economic trade, which was far more efficient than bartering. Later, printed money replaced gold coins, and eventually credit cards began taking the place of paper currency. At some point in the future, this Mark of the Beast will become the new method of economic transfer. Nobody knows what the Mark will be or how it will look: perhaps a microchip implanted under the skin, perhaps a bar code of some sort. or perhaps an official looking tattoo. There are only a few certainties, some folk will try to hide in order to avoid it, and whoever receives the Mark will face eternal damnation.

To repeat.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Trinity one in essence and inseparable. To You O Lord belongs all glory, honor, and worship, in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

SPEECH GIVEN AT THE FUNERAL OF HARRY YIASEMIDES

Picture of my father from long ago

My father, Harry Yiasemides, passed away on January 17, 2022 at the age of 80. We held his funeral on January 25, 2022. Below is a text of the speech I gave in his honor. I know many of my friends and family were hoping to receive a copy of my speech, and this blog is the perfect medium for distributing it on social media.

"Reverend clergy, honorable and worthy guests and visitors, beloved friends and family, thank you for coming today to pray with us, to share in our grief, and to honor the memory of the departed. I see many people from the local community, from our church, and from our restaurant. Most of you knew my father as a local business man, a supporter of the church, and as a loving family man; however, there was much more to my father. It is my intention to introduce to him in a more complete manner.

He was born on the island of Cyprus on December 21, 1941, at the time a British colony. His father was Yiangos, and his mother Evridiki. He had 3 older sisters, Nitsa, Soula, and Niki, and a younger brother Miltiades. My grandfather was a gentleman farmer, and for the society of the time was considered well to do. They came from a line of distinguished men. My father grew up in his father’s fields, his citrus groves, his olive trees, his livestock, and this instilled in my father a deep love of agriculture which he retained to his last day in this life. He would frequently mention how much he missed his familial home.

As a very small child, maybe about 4 or five years old, my father became very ill, with an illness which was almost 100% fatal at the time as they lacked the modern antibiotics which easily remedy this illness. He lay in bed for weeks, my grandparents were convinced they were going to lose him, as a matter fact my grandfather purchased a plot of land in preparation for his burial. As he lay at death’s doorstep one night a lady in a red robe came to him in his dreams and said “My child I will save you, I won’t let you die” In the morning my father jumped out of bed, completely healthy. My grandparents were astonished, but my father told them about his dream and his visitor. They quickly scooped him and ran to the church in order to thank God for his miraculous recovery. As he entered the church, the young Harry pointed to the icon of the Panayia, the All-Holy Mother of God, the Virgin Mary, and exclaimed “that is the lady that spoke to me in my dream.” This instilled in my father a deep love for the Panayia, which he carried with him into eternity. Later in life, he helped build this very church which is dedicated to our most glorious Lady the Theotokos, the mother of our Lord.

To continue, I must tell you about the island of Cyprus. Since the dim reaches of antiquity, Cyprus has always been populated by Greek speaking people.  Beginning in the first Millennium AD, it would be passed along from one conqueror to the next. First it was the Muslim Arabs, next would arrive the Crusaders, later on the Ottoman Turks, and eventually the British Empire would acquire the island in the late 1800’s.  For almost a thousand years, the local Greek people bided their time, hoping to one day gain independence.

When my father was born things were peaceful, and Cyprus thrived as a part of the British Empire. However, the times would soon become very turbulent. As a teenager my father joined the revolution to liberate Cyprus from the yoke of British colonial rule. He played an active role in the armed revolution and did whatever was ordered by the leadership. After the revolution, he joined the newly formed military of Cyprus, as was required of all young men of suitable age, as a member of the elite forces known locally as Green Berets. For comparisons, they are somewhat comparable to US Army Rangers. He attained the rank of Senior NCO, and proudly served as a drill instructor during his tenure of full time service. The political situation in Cyprus was complex, and violently partisan to a degree with which we are unfamiliar here in North America. The revolution, military service, and involvement in the convoluted political intrigues in Cyprus, toughened my father; they made him into a man that did not give up. We could see this in his work ethic, whether it was in his father’s fields, in his restaurant, and in his efforts to build and support this church.

Because of his great love of everything agricultural, from a young age my father greatly desired to make a career as a farmer. He joined the local 4H club and eventually came to the US as a foreign exchange student during the 1960’s. He was hosted by different farming families in Utah, Florida, and for a time by his Uncle Harry in Virginia Beach, whom he was named after. He established friendships which lasted a lifetime. He was greatly impressed by the natural beauty of the US, by the good character of its citizens, by its effective and harmonious political system and efficient government administration, by the freedoms which are so fundamental to daily life, and to the great opportunities available to anyone that wishes to follow their dreams.

My grandfather needed lots of employees to work his fields, he hired a lady named Eleni and she worked for him along with her young daughter Maria. My grandfather was greatly impressed by the good character of the ladies he hired, as was my father. He and Maria developed a friendship, and the normal sort of thing happened, they fell in love and were married in 1971. Sadly, their marital bliss was interrupted, soon after they married, the Turks invaded Cyprus in July 1974. My father fought in the defense of home and country, but poor Cyprus was no match for the very large, modern and well equipped invading army of Turkey. The Northern half of the island was lost to the Turks, and remains occupied 47 years later. My family, from both my mothers and fathers side lost everything: their homes, their fields, and all their possessions. They could only take what they could carry, and became destitute in one night. My father was heartbroken; his home was lost along with the fields and citrus groves that he loved so much. Taking my expectant mother, and filled with the memories of his time in the US, they decided to start a new life in the New World. Dad would always say “We came to this country with $20 dollars in my pocket and the clothes on our backs”. They arrived in Dulles airport, in November of 1974. I was born a few months later, and my sisters would follow a few years thereafter.

Life in the US was very difficult the first few years. My father spoke broken English and my mother not at all. They both did whatever they could to make a living; my mother had been trained as a seamstress and soon found employment at a tailor shop. My father worked in a 7-11; he delivered doughnuts for Krispy Kreme, and eventually got into driving tractor trailers for a short while. Tragedy struck within two years of their arrival, dad was involved in two separate vehicular accidents through no fault of his own. He was severely injured, and it took some time for him to recover his health. But as I mentioned before, life in Cyprus had toughened him, he did not give up. Receiving a small court settlement from his second accident, he and my mother decided to go into business for themselves. In 1979 they purchased their first restaurant, the El Greco in Alexandria Virginia. Soon thereafter they would leave the mobile home in which they had lived and bought their first house. Both of my parents were committed to making a new life here in America, and with great enthusiasm became US citizens as soon as the law allowed. Dad being a sociable person, made many friends, our home was always filled with visitors and guests. Those were happy times, with many fond memories. There are too many stories to tell, but one always sticks out in my mind. One fine Easter Sunday, we had the traditional cookout in the backyard of our home in Alexandria, and my dad thought it would be a great way to liven up the celebration by shooting off a few rounds into the air. This was in a suburban subdivision, where homes had quarter of an acre lots, there were lots of neighbors and of course, one of them called the police when they heard gunfire. The police showed up very quickly, and surrounded our yard, soon a police Sargent showed up to investigate. He took one look at my dad and announced to his officers “Oh it’s just Harry, don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of it.” The good sergeant was a regular customer at the El Greco, and still remains a friend to this very day. Dad sold the El Greco after a few years and bought a deli near the Skyline Towers in Falls Church, Virginia. That did not turn out as well as had been hoped, and dad sold that within a short time. Soon thereafter in 1986, a friend told dad about a Diner in a sleepy little town called Fredericksburg that was for sale. And the rest is a history that we all know well.

Some people would call my father a revolutionary or freedom fighter, but that was not his most prevalent or outstanding quality. Others would call him a shrewd business man, but again that was not his most outstanding quality. Others would call him other things, from quick tempered or even other things because of his political involvement in Cyprus, but again those were not his most prevalent qualities, and people that said those things did not really know him at all. His most outstanding quality was his love.

He loved the Panayia, the mother of our Lord. He loved agriculture, the citrus groves of his familial home; he loved the animals that he tended while he was growing up. He loved his family, and would gladly sacrifice himself for his wife and children. He may have been a strict father, and sometimes he would forget he was no longer a drill sergeant, but his children never doubted that he loved them very much. He loved his country, both the country of his birth and his adopted country here in the US. He loved the traditions and the history of the Greek people, and he made certain that his children also learned to love those same things. May father believed in something very strongly, and I share that belief, we must instill in our children, and in their children, a love for their heritage so they may always be proud that they will carry on a legacy of a people and culture that have endured many thousands of years, since the very beginning of human civilization. He loved people and was generous to everyone, no matter how humble. If someone came to the door of his restaurant, without any money, and asked for something to eat, Harry Yiasemides made certain they were provided with something; and he made certain that his staff was well aware of this policy. He always declared “God has given us plenty; we can certainly share with those that have nothing.” I can say with some certainty, knowing my father as well as I did, that he loved each and every one of us that have gathered together here today, and many, many others that are absent and in faraway places. That was his most outstanding quality, his great love. That was the man I knew, the man I respected and looked up to, and the man whose very wise council I will always remember.

Father if you will permit it with your blessing, I wish to honor my father’s memory and his love for Cyprus and those many places in Greece and elsewhere which are still under threat today, I would ask that you call upon the Panayia which has always protected her people, and lead us in singing the “Τῇ ὑπερμάχῳ”.

Thank you.
